Riverdale Review

So, there's a hot new show on the block and that show is Riverdale!
I'm immediately obsessed with it, and I've only viewed the first episode on Netflix. The show has almost cured me of my Pretty Little Liars 'slump,' in which the last few episodes of the last ever season are yet to air. But Riverdale is a brand new show that presents some promise. It's like a perfect cocktail of  Pretty Little Liars, How to Get Away With Murder (so glad that show has returned), and Scream Queens.
Riverdale is full of hot people, secrets, desire and mystery, and the show is also full of those pesky little High School stereotypes and cliques!

So let's start with some character profiling; we have mean girl Cheryl Blossom, whose the head cheerleader, a popular character and comes across as a bit of an attention-seeker. It's interesting that her twin brother (Do Not Read Any Further If You Are Yet To See The Episode!!!), is the one who is murdered...yet Cheryl doesn't present the emotion of a grieving sibling.

Secondly, we have Archie Andrews. The hot and popular football player that every girl in school wants to date. I love this character, considering his obvious High School stereotypical role, he is less likely to conform to that clique. For one, he is best friends with shy girl, Betty Cooper, Archie wishes to drop out of football and pursue a career in music, and he had a fling with music teacher Geraldine Grundy over the summer holidays. (That teacher looks more like a student in age that anything else)...

Betty Cooper, however, openly takes on the role of the shy, quite and hardworking student that every High School has. (During High School, this role belonged to me).
I like Betty and yet, I feel sorry for her. She's desperate to start a relationship with friend Archie, yet cannot see that he has the hots for Grundy. Mean girl Cheryl Blossom obviously doesn't like her because of that mysterious history between her dead brother and Betty's sister Polly. This relationship is rather insteresting and I'm curious to see what really happened to Polly; she's obviously someone that people can talk about but rather won't and I'm sensing a bit of dark history within the Cooper family...

Then we have Kevin Keller, Betty Coopers' gay best friend. Kevin is a real sweetie, and I love how he encourages Betty to go after her dream man, Archie - whilst checking him out for himself. I think Kevin is a great character for a bit of comic relief in a gloomy and mysterious storyline.

New girl Veronica Lodge is also an insteresting character. She arrives in Riverdale with her mum after her father is arrested for imbezzeling funds from his workplace. Posh girl Veronica is a reformed  Cheryl Blossom and I like how she instantly befriends Betty, Archie and Kevin. (I love how this isn't her usual friendship group, considering her prior popularity) She's quite strong-headed and serious about making up for things she did in her troubled past (as she informs Betty). I'm excited to see how this new-found relationship between Betty and Veronica is going to develop and how the already bitter one between Veronica and Cheryl is going to worsen.

Finally, there's Jughead Jones. Jughead is the odd boy, he comes across as lonely in the first episode and very reserved, this might be because we don't see him much - he narrates throughout the episode. I suppose this is only right, considering that Jughead is writing a novel about the events of the summer and the murder of Cheryl's brother (Jason Blossom). However, I have a gut feeling that throughtout the episodes to come, Jughead is going to be the one to investigate Jason's murder and gather the clues - maybe even getting our stereotypical, and dysfunctional characters involved in the investigation.

I look forward to seeing the above characters and their relationships with one another develop throughout the show, and hopefully the characters will break-away from their High School stereotypes.
Who knows!
Maybe the murder of Jason Blossom is just the beginning...
Maybe one of them is the murderer...
All the same, I look forward to the mysteries and secrets of Riverdale unfolding...
