Two Gaming Giants Become One As Sony Interactive Entertainment Acquires Insomniac Games
Sony Interactive
Entertainment (SIE) – the global video game and entertainment company, has
entered talks to acquire Insomniac Games, Inc. The American video game
developer is best known for Marvel’s 2018 PlayStation4 game, Spider-Man, along
with games such as Spyro Reignited (2018) and Sunset Overdrive (2014).
Playstation
tweeted that “We are honored and thrilled to join forces with this legendary
developer. Please join us in congratulating our friends and partners at
Insomniac!”
Insomniac games have
collaborated with SIE for more than 20 years. Most recently, the two companies
worked in partnership to launch Marvel’s Spider-man in 2018. Developed by
Insomniac games and published by Sony, the PS4 game has sold more than 13.2
million copies worldwide and GameSpot chose it as one of the best games of
2018.
In a press
release, Ted Price, Insomniac Games CEO, stated that their collaboration with
Sony has “…spanned all four PlayStation consoles, 20 total games and six franchises.”
He continued to add, “We still work closely today with many of the same Sony
teammates as we did when we released the original Spyro the Dragon in 1998.”
Having earned 20
awards since 2005, Insomniac games has created and developed video game franchises
for more than 25 years and is best known for its adventurous and highly
interactive worlds and escapism.
“Insomniac games are

legacy of best in-class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled,” said Shawn
Layden, Chairmen of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
With two highly
respected and impressive game developers to work as one entity, gamers are in
